More Beta:

Located 1.4 miles into the canyon and approximately 24 minutes from Bakersfield. The Lower Power Station has some surprisingly good routes. Along with the taller lines this area also dons the Baby Boulders and the Columbia Space Shuttle Boulder below the road. The taller lines can either be top roped or lead depending on what you are looking for. Apart from the group of routes on the roadside by the turnout there is also one route across the river. The original lower canyon guide say that this routes bolt placement makes leading it difficult...

Access:

No Road Access Issues other than The Kern Canyon is subject to closure because of rock slides. The only other possible access issue would be if you are trying to get to the route across the river.

Quick Tips:

The rock is a little chossy so be careful for falling rocks and throwing dirt down on your belayer. If you climb here in the summer than you better beat the sun which arrives around 10 a.m.

Directions:

From Bakersfield take HWY 178 into the Kern Canyon approximately 1.4 miles.

* See area map for better directions.

Road Status:

This area is not gated.

Camping:

Their is camping in the Kern Canyon although it is HOT and Dirty. The company at the campsites is questionable as well.

Trail:

Just Park at the turnout and the trail is very obvious.
